Nalasopara – The Central Crime Branch police have arrested a husband and his stepson for allegedly killing a pregnant woman and her unborn child by giving her poison over dowry demands.
This tragic incident occurred in the jurisdiction of the Achole police station. The victim was married to Jayprakash Dubey, who, along with his stepson Sachin Dubey, began harassing her soon after their marriage. The victim’s family did not provide any dowry during the wedding, which led to continuous abuse and beatings, especially when Jayprakash was drunk.
On the night of May 5, around 8 PM, Jayprakash, in a drunken state, beat the victim who was eight months pregnant. During the assault, Sachin held her down while Jayprakash forced her to consume some poisonous substance. This incident led to the death of the unborn child, and on April 20, the Achole police registered a case against the two accused. Jayprakash was arrested and presented before the Vasai court, which granted him bail. However, Sachin managed to evade the police.
While receiving treatment at Star Hospital in Nalasopara, the victim succumbed to her injuries on July 2. The Achole police added murder charges to the case. An appeal was made to the Vasai court to cancel Jayprakash’s bail. On July 11, the court revoked his bail, and both accused went into hiding.
Given the severity and sensitivity of the case, senior police officials ordered an immediate search for the suspects. Under the leadership of Central Crime Branch Inspector Rahul Rakh, a team was formed, including officers Hitendra Vichare, Rajaram Kale, Shivaji Patil, Govind Kendre, Hanumant Suryawanshi, Sangram Gaikwad, Santosh Madne, Akil Sutar, Saket Maghade, and Nitin Rathod. The team worked tirelessly for four days, using technical surveillance and confidential information to track down the accused.
On July 16, the team successfully apprehended Jayprakash Dubey (50) and Sachin Dubey (20) in Nalasopara. Both were handed over to the Achole police station for further legal action.
This case highlights the ongoing issue of dowry harassment and the extreme measures some individuals take when their demands are not met. The police’s swift action in arresting the accused demonstrates their commitment to seeking justice for the victim and her unborn child.
