In the midst of the ongoing Kala Krida Mahotsav in Vasai, a tragic incident occurred during a Kabaddi match, resulting in 15 spectators sustaining injuries. The incident took place on Friday evening, around 7:30 PM, at the Chimaji Appa Maidan, where the 34th Kala Krida Mahotsav is currently underway.
The fourth day of the festival saw various sports events unfolding on the grounds, captivating the audience in the packed galleries. Both supporters of participating teams filled the spectator gallery to cheer for their favorite players, enhancing the overall festive atmosphere.
However, the joyous occasion took a somber turn when an unexpected mishap occurred, causing a commotion in the gallery. The incident led to 15 individuals sustaining injuries, including both players and spectators. Most of the injured were female players, hailing from the nearby Chikhal Dongri and Arnala villages.
The Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation and the organizers of the Kala Krida Mahotsav expressed deep regret over the unfortunate incident. The injured players and spectators were promptly taken to the municipal hospital for immediate medical attention. Fortunately, none of the injuries were reported as severe, with only two individuals complaining of abdominal pain, as per the initial medical examinations.
The medical staff at Vasai’s Parnaka Hospital, led by Dr. Aaslam Sheikh, attended to all the injured individuals, providing necessary medical care and ensuring their well-being. Though some complained of discomfort, thorough examinations did not reveal any serious injuries. After receiving appropriate treatment, all patients were discharged from the hospital.
Vasai’s MLA, Hitendra Thakur, along with BJP leader Manoj Patil, visited the hospital to inquire about the well-being of the injured individuals. The incident occurred during an intense Kabaddi match, where enthusiastic supporters had gathered in large numbers to witness the sporting event. The incident prompted a swift response from the local leaders, emphasizing the need for increased safety measures during such public gatherings.
Former Mayor Praveen Shetty, reflecting on the incident, mentioned that such mishaps were unprecedented in the history of the Kala Krida Mahotsav. Nevertheless, he assured that extra precautions would be taken in the future to prevent any recurrence of such incidents. Shetty expressed his concern for the injured and extended his best wishes for their speedy recovery.
As the festival continues, organizers are now prioritizing safety and ensuring that all necessary precautions are in place. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and preparedness during large-scale events to guarantee the safety and enjoyment of participants and spectators alike.
