The Waliv police are currently searching for an unidentified thief who broke into an SBI ATM in Vasai East and stole approximately Rs 20 lakh in cash. The incident occurred around 3.30 am on Sunday, when the thief used a gas cutter to gain access to the ATM. Additionally, the CCTV camera was disabled by cutting its wires, and the thief was wearing a balaclava (monkey cap) to conceal their identity. The Waliv police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter.
The targeted SBI ATM is located at Deep Tower Society, Shop Number 13, Golani Naka, Vasai East. The police have determined that the thief closed the shutter of the ATM shop, opened the ATM machine, and made off with approximately Rs 19,02,050 in cash. The incident was reported when a person entered the ATM booth in the morning and discovered the damage, promptly informing the police.
Senior Inspector Kailas Barve of the Waliv police station stated that they have gathered information suggesting that the suspect was not acting alone and had accomplices waiting nearby, providing updates on the situation. The police are making progress towards apprehending the main suspect and their associates. An FIR (First Information Report) has been registered for the theft of approximately Rs 20 lakh from the SBI ATM machine. A police officer mentioned that the absence of security guards at the ATM center allowed the thief to take advantage of the situation and carry out the crime.
